QBQ 9 - EMOTIONS ARE THAT STRONG.

Yes, you go about your daily activities like everyone else all dressed up and smelling good…have a few laughs here and there whereas no one but you knows what’s really happening on the inside. At the end of the day when finally you are all alone…that’s when it sets in. The funniest part is that, you don’t even realize how silent those moments really are, cos the noise emanating from your head is just overwhelming. Like a cancer, those moments grow and if not checked, they gradually become a part of you. Moments where you feel like you are gradually loosing yourself…you become a lot more comfortable in the dark…you keep looking but you aint seeing…you are talking but you aint speaking…you are hearing but you aint listening. You try to force yourself to eat something so that you don’t break down, but then you realize that swallowing a grain of rice could be that difficult. You try to pray, but the words wouldn’t just come out. Well, I just want to let you know that you are not alone…I’ve been there, and what I know more than anything is that it’s just a phase…and this too shall pass. I will just share with you a few tips on how I was able to get out of that phase as quickly as I could. First, find a way of breaking the silence with something positive. Back then I would play some really cool music…’I look to you’ by Whitney Houston, ’Beauty from pain’ by Superchick and ‘Still/be still my soul’ by Don Moen were my favorite. I would put them on repeat so that they could drown every other thought in my head. Then little by little, your spirit will ignite and you will begin to feel the heat passing through the rest of your body. Before you know it, you are singing along and you gradually begin to convert those songs to your own prayers. As you pray, the Holy Spirit starts planting verses of the bible in your heart. There are no other words as encouraging and comforting as those in the bible. After reading them you find out that your strength has been renewed, and you’ll begin to see the situation as God sees it (some will say with your spiritual eye rather than the physical). The opportunity to draw all you need to face that situation from His River of Life is presented to you – Grace, patience, mercy, love, wisdom. You suddenly feel like a soldier that is well equipped with his amour and ready for battle with the confidence that he is going to be victorious. Secondly, find anything that relaxes you and do it. If it’s watching a movie, or exercising or getting a massage…whatever it is, just do it as often as you can. Finally, run away from Idle moments and get busy! It is those Idle moments that spark up silent moments. Learn a skill, volunteer at something even if its an NGO, work towards creating something of your own. And if you genuinely feel like you cannot do this on your own, there is absolutely nothing wrong is seeking help. You can talk to your Christian leader, a counselor or even a friend you feel comfortable sharing your problems with. Silent moments can be blessings in disguise, it just depends on how you choose to manage them. If handled properly they could be a pointer to a major breakthrough in your life, and equally shape you to be ten times better than you were. In all, try to remain 3 Ps – Prayerful, Patient and Positive!
